1) " Metal forces pitchers to "trick" the bat, always looking to pitch away from contact. The art of fastball command and pitching with one's fastball is lost, as one is not rewarded for a well-located fastball. Because of that, pitchers don't throw as many fastballs and lose arm strength. Also, leaning on secondary pitches before one is matured physically may cause more injuries. 2) Hitters learn bad fundamentals with the metal bat. The metal bat makes some sense at the youth levels but after that, really retard hitter development. The ideal is to be able to put the fat part of the bat on the ball and that is not necessary with metal. Eventually, hitters will play with wood, so the sooner, the better."
Mark Yoshino Bellevue Community College Head Coach “We are very excited when we recruit a player who comes from the Washington State Baseball League. Not only do they have the physical skill development and experience of using wood, but also more importantly, their mental confidence is high. For many players at the college level, this is the more important adjustment than the physical part.” Link Bellevue CC NWAACC Champion 2007 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
